The '''Brave Chieftain''' is a transient paramilitary rank in the culture of the [[Carcolie]] Wood-Elves, bestowed by a civil authority such as the [[Great-Grandchieftain]] or a [[Chieftain]] upon a warrior or hunter of great renown, in times of need, to lead a congregated host of the Carcolie. In the case of Brave Chieftains appointed by the Great-Grandchieftain, the title is often conferred alongside a ceremony of consecration lead by the [[Speaker of the Eye]], the rites of which usually include placing a geas upon the new Brave Chieftain to complete whatever mission has created the need for them, after which they are expected to lay the title down, though they will remain honoured for their service for the rest of their days.
