The '''Dutchy of Sudmarch''' is one of the five duchies which make up the [[Kingdom of Bastonia]], established in 1643 [[Age of Bastion]] by [[King Eldrech V]] to formalling bring the [[Frontier Counties]] under the control of the [[House of Baston]] and to make them formally part of the kingdom. Eldrech placed his third son, [[Benedict Lukas Henry]] as the first duke and established the ducal seat as [[Val Verra]].

The establishment of the duchy as a formal territory lead to the build up and "Bastonianization" of the Frontier Counties, which up until then had been loosely-organized human communities in the [[Lordless Lands]]. As a consequence, this lead to the [[Southern Expansion]] and all the conflicts which followed.
