The '''Duke of Bastonia''' is a title within the [[Bastonian]] nobility, and the highest rank among the Bastonian Dukes. Conferring the title of Duke of Bastonia upon an individual makes them the heir apparent to the Bastonian Crown, and as such the Duke of Bastonia is often (but not always) the eldest child of the reigning monarch. It is the only Ducal title in the Bastonian aristocracy that defaults back to the monarch when unoccupied, and there are historical examples of the monarch granting the title to a loyal lieutenant only to later remove it when their child reaches an age of reason - the more common modern practice is to immediately confer the title onto a child of the monarch and then appoint a trusted duke or other lieutenant as Regent in Waiting.
