The '''Great-Grandchieftain''' of the Carcolie is a social and spiritual rank among the Carcolie, being the chief of the tribe that holds [[The Hidden Capital]] and viewed as a maternal forebear (at least spiritually) to all carcolie of all tribes. The position is usually held by a woman and she is usually an inheritor of a druidic or shamanistic heritage of spellcasting, deeply in tune with nature. In addition to very real social authority, the spiritual authority of the Great-Grandchieftain keeps them centered in the lives of the Carcolie. Just as they can appoint a Brave Chieftain and confirm the anointing of the [[Speaker of the Eye]], they are in turn anointed to their post by the Speaker, keeping a unity between political and religious power among their people.
