The '''Hinterlands''' are a region of [[Bastonia]], present in the lexicon of Bastonians, but unrecognized in Bastonian Law. This region is a cold, coastal region full of hills and sparse stands of trees. The region is known by a geonym rather than simply by its appropriate Duchy because the territory is largely disputed between the Duchies of [[Zeemarch]] and [[The North]].

Legends connect the Hinterlands strongly with the Fae and undeath, and almost every named landmark in the region has some patron wight, ghost, hag, or fae that guard it. In particular, two ancient fortifications stand in the Hinterlands: the [[Unseelie Tower]] and the [[Seelie Ruins]]; however in recent times this practice was discontinued as a monstrous force from the Unseelie Tower launched and assault on, and ultimately drove the [[Companions of the Light]] from, the [[Seelie Ruins]].
