'''Port Arbita''', is a small city in the [[Kingdom of Alteria]], northwest [[Shimmering Shore]]. It is the first port of call in the Shimmering Shore for trade convoys from [[Oversea]] and along that route the closest friendly port to [[Southport]]. Once part of the Republic of [[Petrenea]], the city fell under the control of its neighbour, [[Alteria]], after the [[Great Collapse]].

== Geography ==
Like many such port cities, Port Arbita is at the mouth of a river, allowing shipment by barge of goods upriver to the city of [[Alteria]].

The city is not fortified, but open to the elements. This in keeping with the general openness of the harbour and the seaside market district in general. The city is the only city in all of the Shimmering Shore with an established temple to [[the Almighty]], introduced by traders from [[Bastonia]].

== Economy ==
Port Arbita punches far above its weight economically. The port is a transshipment point for goods from as far away as [[Coldwater]] and [[Pashkhara]], with those goods not just passing upriver to [[Alteria]] but also on to other ports further down the coast in some cases. The Arbita city fathers are able to peel off a modest, but appreciable, revenue in the form of teriffs and fees.

== Politics ==
Arbita is ruled by a small signoria, but is ultimately a vassal to [[Alteria]], upon whom it relies for military protection. It is largely the difficulty in holding the city against [[Alteria]] that has prevented [[Bastonia]] from taking the city by military or diplomatic maneuvers.
