Bastonian Heartland

Zeemarch is a Duchy in Bastonia, whose Duke is formally known as the Duke of Bastonia, usually the oldest child of the reigning monarch. It is the only Duchy that sometimes is devolved into the titles of the King or Queen themselves if no heir is apparent; all other Duchies usually remain in their original hands or the hands of a trusted ally until a suitable replacement can be found. It is considered bad practice for both the monarch and the Duke of Bastonia to ever be absent from Bastonia simultaneously; if the King were to die while the Duke is absent this almost always results in a war of succession.

The Duke's principle holding is the Low Castle in Whiterock, the capital city of Bastonia. The surrounding lowland plains are further subdivided into various counties and other domains. This region of Bastonia is one of the safest places to live in all of Wisteria, second perhaps only to the Hearthlands, at least when there is no ongoing war of succession.
