Darkcoal is the common translation of the traditional Dwarvish name for a mineral found in the Deeps, which has peculiar arcane properties. The mineral itself is extremely hazardous to handle, or even exist around, and while it is useful for certain magical crafting operations, these hazards are significant, leading to its use being considered famously hazardous. The deleterious effects of exposure to darkcoal are known collectively as Deepburn.
