A Gate Storm is a phenomenon that can be thought of as a very specific form of extreme weather, which causes the creation of spontaneous gates between the planes. Gate Storms are extremely hazardous events, often leaving the surrounding area scarred by various impacts of the plane to which they linked, as well as potentially releasing dangerous creatures into the local environment or leading to individuals caught in the storm becoming stranded on inhospitable planes. Such storms are usually only seen in the Shimmering Shores.

A particularly noteworthy and long-lived Gate Storm known as the Great Rift has been the long-lasting cause of an event known as the Great Collapse.
