The Great Collapse is a historical event that brought about the end of the unified republic of Petrenea in the Shimmering Shore. The term refers both to the phenomenon of a sudden increase in the occurrence of Gate Storms in the region and to the socio-political ramifications, which lead to the collapse of the Petrenian republic; the various cities that once comprised the Republic do not have the resources to continue imperial governance, and have devolved into conflict, both with the enemy and with one another.
