TarnishedTale is a ruleset for adjudicating a classless RPG gameplay mechanic, originally created for a proposed MUD engine written in python 3, which was never completed. The ruleset borrows heavily from Chaosium's Basic Role Playing (BRP) engine, made popular by the Call of Cthulhu Tabletop RPG, in that it based all checks on effective d% checks, and had a similar skill mechanic, of expressing skills as a value from 0 at the lowest end to 99 at complete mastery, requiring the user to "roll" less than their skill score to succeed on a check, with certain modifiers.

TarnishedTale could ultimately be used to roll a game in any time period, but the principal mechanics and default list of skills were centered on Fantasy RP.
