Companions of the Light
The Companions of the Light are a nearly-extinct Chivalric Order formally headquartered in the ruins of the Seelie Tower, in far northwestern Bastonia. Like all chivalric orders they are a paramilitary and religious organization, though having been thrown into disarray their ability to field a full army of their own is severely limited, and are sometimes known as Knights Mendicant, their scattered membership found throughout Bastonia. The surviving knights maintain the traditions of the order and have earned themselves a reputation as battlefield healers par excellence, and the order is particularly known for the faithfulness of its members, with many knights of the Companions of the Light being priests in their own right.
The Companions are commanded by a Knight Superior, elected to the post by the senior officers of the order by their own number as the need warrants. The order swears fealty to the junior spouse of the Bastonian Monarch, and in practice most knights have a secondary liege dependent on where they serve. The leadership of the order now convene at the Cathedral of the Almighty in Boischateau.
The blazon of the Order of the Lanyard is Argent, a plain white blazon being functionally identical to the holy symbol of The Almighty. High Ranking Officers, especially those who have been knighted, are further entitled to an additional blazon: 'Argent, a sun gules.
With the destruction of the Seelie Tower in recent memory, the Companions are organizationally scattered, though 'de jure' they are organized as a single company made up of squadrons of up to 100 knights. In practice, it is rare to find more than two or three Companions of the Light in any one location at any one time. Most Companions of the Order are plying their trade as healers fighting alongside other orders, and in such cases may have split loyalties, or fight under both blazoned impaled. The leadership of the Companions are biding their time, gathering fresh faces and new materiel to mount an assault on the Unseelie Tower, to either take it in place of their previous stronghold or destroy it, permitting the Seelie Tower to be rebuild safely.
