Valkan Astera is a human oracle from Petrenea. In their infancy, they experienced a traumatic brush with the divine that has left most of their body covered in wholring burn scars. Orphaned by this experience, they have lived the life of a vagrant fortune-teller until the Great Rift and the resulting Fall of Petrenea made the Shimmering Shore too dangerous for this lifestyle. From there, they made their way north to Baghar, before striking out into the Lordless Lands in the company of their close friend, Regan Sommer.

Valkan receives constant, though not always intelligible, divine input which they describe as the Voices Between Stars, particularly at night. The visions that sometimes accompany these whisperings lead Valkan's planning and ultimately results in them helping to form the Horde without Lords.
