Frontier Counties

The Frontier Counties, formally known as the Duchy of Sudmarch, is a territory formally claimed by Bastonia. It defined as those lands south of an ancient chain of fortifications known as the Bastion Line. There are roughly a dozen counties in the Duchy that are more or less lawless depending on their northerliness and the capability and virtue of their counts. This territory is considered extremely inhospitable. In addition to not being particularly rich lands, the southeastern Frontier Counties encroach upon traditional lands of the Orcish Nation, bringing the Bastonians who live there into conflict with the Orcs they are attempting to expel. The East, where it abuts the Atlas Mountains, is occasionally subject to Carcolie raids.
