The Imperial Legion is Wisteria's largest standing army, a professional militia sworn to the service of the Atarlie Empire, specifically to its Emperor and to Rophalin Imperitor, first emperor of the Sun Elves, who is a god in the High Elven Pantheon. The Legion is known as the quick and reliable path to upward social mobility. Any member of any race who can meet the requirements for service may serve in the Legion on a two-year contract, at the end of which they are considered full citizens of the empire. Many serve longer, gaining increased social position for their future civilian life as they move upward through the ranks of the Legion.

The force is comprised of individual Columns, under district or provincial command. Columns are further composed of two seperate classes of unit - local garrisons suitable only for patrol within a certain radius of their garrison, and expeditionary forces.
