Duke of the North

The Duke of the North is a title within the Bastonian nobility, fourth in order of precedence among the Bastonian Dukes and therefore ahead only of the Duke of Sudmarch in importance. Duke of the North is also a highly stable position, and often does not get "replaced" with the birth of a fourth heir to the current monarch, making Northern dynasties somewhat more reliable than in, for example, Estmarch.

The trade that passes through the North - that with the Atarlie Empire and the valuable trade in Arcwhale Oil - also tends to enrich the Duke of the North, and there's often some debate as to whether or not it is they or the Duke of Zeemarch who is the wealthiest.
