Rokea is a large city along the river of the same name, near the southeastern tip of Wisteria, in the region now known as the Shimmering Shore. The city is highly integrated, welcoming anyone and everyone into its walls who can get by, though the quality of life is relatively poor, owing to the city's lack of exotic resources. The city is well known for its shellfish harvests as the portion of the Rokea upon which it is located is wide and deep, and brackish as it mixes with the waters of the South Sea.

The city's population is broadly integrated with many kinds of half-folk - both post-Great Collapse individuals with mixed Outsider heritage, as well as various kinds of sea elves and other oceanic folk. This has earned it the reputation as the Melting Pot of Wisteria.

Geography

Rokea is an open city, without obvious fortification, and subject to considerable sprawl considering its size.

Economy

Rokea's economy is fair, but not nearly as wealthy as the economies of the other major cities of the Shimmering Shore. The city commands no especially exotic resources apart from its food and spices, and those spices are much the same as what is available in Pashkhara, which is more readily accessible - the deep-keeled ships of the traders from the Atarlie Empire cannot easily ply the estuary to reach the city port itself.

Therefore, the city does quite well for itself, but is also self-sufficient. What cannot be sourced within the Rokean Vale must be traded for, usually on a small scale by heading down the coast to Pashkhara. The city does generate some signficant revenue for such trade through mercantilism by selling surplus lumber and metals (especially copper) to Xarthekei.

Politics

Since the Fall of the Petrenean Republic, the republican government of the city of Rokea also collapsed, replaced with an open syndicate government formed by its former theives guild. By some tradition, the members of this volatile office have held the lofty title of Tsar of Rokea, a title taken seriously only within the Rokean Vale and viewed with some derision by most other royals.
