Grand Vizier

The Grand Vizier is the chief advisory office of the Sultunate of Baghar, second in both political and religious power only to the Sultan himself. The position is always held by a high-ranking member of the Church of Anghara. It is the common practice of the Sultan to devolve their religious responsibilities to their Grand Vizier.
Holding the position of Grand Vizier is a great mark to the credit of the person who bears it. In order to qualify, one must survive a long career in the slippery, and often bloody, world of Baghar court politics, demonstrate proficiency in political and diplomatic expediencies, show the favour Anghara, and possess the aptitude and ability to make use of arcane magic. The role is therefore almost always filled with some manner of theurge, and the position's ability to gatekeep and influence the sultan puts a target on the Grand Vixier's back as soon as he affixes his badges of office.
