Fjordlodge is a large town in the Province of the Lowland Meadows of the Atarlie Empire, situated on the shore near the boundary between its province and the Province of the Sun and Moon, at the top of a deep fjord into the coast of the eastern sea. It's the largest settlement along the fjord and its principal harbour, known best for its fishing trade. The port is a popular and traditional jumping-off point for elven adventurers who want to travel to the East, either exploring for small islands in that sea to trade with or, in some ambitious cases, attempting to cross it entirely.

Geography

Fjordlodge takes its name from the dwelling of its lord, high up the steep slopes of the fjord, and many other such residences are build all up and down these slopes, coming together at the harbour itself, right on the water's edge. The waters here are deep and placid, and the magic of the elves keeps the harbour and a narrow channel at the center of the fjord from freezing in all but the most extreme of winters.

A small island near the harbour - considered part of the town - is home to a temple complex dedicated to Camus Inakas in his aspect as patron to explorers and adventurers. This island also hosts as school of seamanship that is frequented both by wealthy merchants' eventual heirs and by officers of the Imperial Legion who are destined to become specialists in naval warfare.

There are no permanent roads leading out of Fjordlodge. There is a well-known trail linking the city to Imarraka, but it is not a proper roadway and so would require some skill at orientiering or an elven guide to traverse.

Economy

Fjordlodge subsists on fishing, some small trade with unincorporated islands dotting the eastern sea, and its own resources. The forests are rich and the mountains that form the fjord contain iron and silver ore, the smelted products of which are traded away to Bayside or Sunport for what the Fjordlodgers can't source for themselves.

Politics

Fjordlodge is ruled directly by the Master of Fjordlodge, themselves the primarch of their house, the oldest and most influential family in the area.
