Galenasdale, is a an encampment the size of a small town in the Atlas Mountains, located somewhere near Khaz Glorlode, which places it in the surface region that is relatively lawless and contested between the Carcolie Rook-Elves, the dwarves of Clan Marrensson, and the Atarlie Empire, who are the proprietors of the encampment. The encampment was established only recently, and incorporated as a part of the Imperial Province, so that the Governor of the same province could attach a detachment of the Imperial Legion to the encampment for protection. The decision to station troops in the encampment has made the denizens of Khaz Glorlode nervous and mistrustful of the Atarlie, but was viewed as necessary for the largely Hearthlander population of the community from the Carcolie. The encampment is economically significant due to the increasing demand in the Hearthlands and Atarlie Empire for the magical herb Aicasse Galenas, a curious form of pipe-weed that is considered increasingly desirable.

Geography

Galenasdale is in a small valley within a day's march of Khaz Glorlode, with its position offering it access to the valley of the same name, which is rich foraging for Aicasse Galenas. The settlement is partially walled with halfling masonry (more for comfort and deliniation than any actual protection), but it is home to a garrison of imperial troops (in a sub-encampment off the main camp, with their only permanent structures being a mess hall and a headquarters building). There are also as many as a dozen halfling homes within the encampment in various stages of completeness of construction, and one of the largest of these homes serves as a group home for the less-permanent visitors to the encampment, such as seasonal foragers.

Economy

Galenasdale wouldn't be profitable enough to justify its defense on its farming output alone, and there's question of whether or not farming the settlement is even a good idea, or if it should be reduced back down to the status of a camp, not unlike a lumber camp. Its chief economic purpose is acting as a hub for foragers harvesting Aicasse Galenas, which is now valuable enough within the Atarlie Empire to justify the expense of defending the town.

Politics

The raids by the Carcolie put considerable tension on the detatchment of legion troops present in the town, and the decision to garrison troops here to deal with them in the first place has caused considerable tension between the dwarves of Khaz Glorlode and the Atarlie Empire, where previously a good relationship had existed there. The town's halfling headman has some influence with the governor of the Imperial Province, but even then the constant strife is likely to end his career as much as everyone else's.
